ISS-IMAP mission

IMAP mission (Ionosphere, Mesosphere, upper Atmosphere and Plasmasphere mapping mission) aims to elucidate the transport process of energy and particles in the ionosphere and the plasmasphere. We installed an optical observation device at the International Space Station and observed the plasma in the ionosphere and plasmasphere of the Earth. The observation machine consists of “VISI” camera observing the ionosphere plasma and “EUVI” camera observing plasma zone plasma, Yoshikawa Laboratory developed EUVI. The observation devices were launched in July 2013 on the space station supply machine HTV (commonly known as “Konomori”).
